Where I still do not pay for speed, and other limits
None of this means every order should be an emergency. If the belt is running, spare parts are in stock, and the next planned outage is two months away, we use standard freight and wait. The time-certainty premium only makes sense when uncertainty is actually expensive.
And a mechanical splice is not always the right technical answer. For some heavy-duty or high-safety applications, a vulcanized splice or a full belt replacement is the better engineering choice. I’m not going to pretend otherwise. The lesson isn’t “always buy Flexco.” The lesson is “decide based on what failure costs, not what the part weighs on a scale.”
Looking back, I should have built a pre-assembled belt repair kit and kept it on the shelf. The reason I didn’t was budget—or, more honestly, the absence of a visible emergency. The emergency always arrives eventually. It did.
